We have come to the conclusion that we have the fanciest cats around. This conclusion is not based on any research or study, we just think so :) We did have a reason though, namely that our three cats now have five litter boxes. Yep, you read that right, five litter boxes for three cats. Surprisingly, I am not actually annoyed with it. I am shocked at that, personally.
There is of course, a story of how we got to possess so many boxes...
When honey's kitties moved in, so did their litter boxes and we had three boxes right then and there. I was not happy with this, but it was a compromise from having four boxes as honey suggested. The boys had two boxes in one closet and then my girl had her box that traveled for a bit as we were all settling into the new way of life. It was in my son's room for the longest time until not so long ago we took it out. My son's room is now cat-free zone and he keeps the door closed, always, even when he's not home. My cat's box traveled to another closet in the hallway and that's where it is now. Of course, designations such as 'boys box' and 'girl's box' are arbitrary as they all use all the boxes. Loosing my son's room as their territory has upset the cats and my girl started using the bathtub as her personal litter box at night. So the morning routine started to include cleaning up the tab, which really wasn't a big deal. The last straw, however, came when one of the cats (assumption is on the girl) peed on the stove! That's when we decided to get another box which somehow led to two more boxes. One now lives in the bathroom and travels into the tub at night and the other box is in the living room by the cat tree. What makes this very fancy is that the new litter boxes are stainless steel! They are very cute and stylish too!
So far the cats haven't used the box in the living room so it might eventually replace one of the plastic boxes in the closets. Then we'll be down to four :) I do hope the boxes last much longer. It seems they are more durable and more hygienic since stainless steel is not as porous as plastic. They were only $10 more than plastic ones, so this might be a good long term investment since I'm pretty sure we'll always have cats.
