I have been thinking about my 50 things project recently. Spring just brings these feelings of openness and new beginnings and cleaning and organizing goes with those feelings for me. I remember the project as being fun, I just didn't realize that it's been almost a year since I started. Or maybe pausing for a great big while doesn't count?
The project's idea is to purge your home of 50 things. Those can be not just physical things, but emotional things as well. Maybe some old ways of thinking that you are ready to let go of, old ideas that you had. However, if you get rid of multiples of the same general thing, it only counts as one item. Such as getting rid of your whole DVD collection will still only count as 1 item.
When I was doing the project, I only got to 6 things that I let go of, and that's it! I am not sure what distracted me, but something did. Since I've been cleaning up again some, I think I'll continue my 50 things list and add some to it. It's tempting for me to include recycling in this list, simply because we accumulate it for a while and by the time I take it to the drop-off site it feels like I'm parting with an actual item and not trash. Still, I don't think recycling counts... And so for all my cleaning up I have only thrown out the number 7 on the list. My winter boots got just way too worn out and the sneakers as well, too worn out to donate them to anyone. I'm not sure what to let go of next, though I'm sure there are plenty of things we don't need.
7. My winter boots and old sneakers
6. DVDs
5. Unneeded craft supplies
4. Old socks and such
3. Wall Lamps
2. CD storage cabinet
1. Old CD cases
